What makes the Fjord horse so special?

It has a gentle, charming, curious, people-oriented, even tempered nature.
It has a willing, "eager to please", trusting disposition.
It is very intelligent and learns fast, and retains what it has learned.
It has great versatility. It is an excellent riding horse (English or Western), and also can excel in dressage, driving, eventing, farm work, and draft.
It is a hardy, long lived, economical keeper and adapts easily to weather conditions of its environment.
It is sure-footed and athletic in movement.
It has great strength, but is a manageable size.
It is one of the purest and oldest breeds in the world, and it has the distinction of being the horse of the Vikings.
It has an "eye-catching", unique look with a large, well-proportioned, very strong neck that has a crest. It has sturdy, powerful legs often with black, zebra-striped markings. The cream-colored mane is cut short to stand up. Running through the mane is a dark stripe which starts in the forelock and becomes a full dorsal stripe, ending in the tail. The forehead is broad and flat and the ears are small and alert. Most Fjords are a brown dun color.
The Fjord has very beautiful, large, soft brown, expressive eyes that will win you over in a heartbeat!

Fjord horses have a dark stripe running through their mane. It starts in the forelock, goes down the back and through the tail. Both sides of the mane are of a light cream color, giving a dramatic emphasis to the dark stripe.
