SNF Maarta Eventing Champion

SNF Maarta traveled to the United States Eventing Association (USEA) Area XIII Beginner Novice Championships in Lexington, Kentucky on September 2-4, 2005 at the Kentucky Classic Horse Trials. Area XIII consists of Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and part of Pennsylvania. Horses qualify for the Championships by placing first through fourth at any USEA recognized horse trials in Area XIII. Eventing is a sport which encompasses three disciplines: dressage, cross-country jumping, and stadium jumping. Horses must be proficient in all 3 phases in order to score well. SNF Maarta put in her usual stellar performance and bested a field of 22 horses of different breeds from across the region to finish in first place in our division, and in second place overall. Standing at 13.3 hands, SNF Maarta was by far the smallest horse competing. SNF Maarta has proven that it is not the size of the horse that matters, but rather the size of the horse's heart that wins the day. Congratulations to SNF Maarta on becoming the 2005 Area XIII Beginner Novice Rider Champion. Congratulations also to her rider, Lauren Chumley for the outstanding training she is doing with SNF Maarta and our other horses!

SNF Maarta has had another
great year competing in the
United States Eventing Association recognized horse trials.

SNF Fjelde Named Dressage Reserve Champion

On Sunday, September 11, SNF Fjelde made history at Sorum Fjord Farm by becoming the first of our fjords to place in a Regional Dressage Championship in Sunbury, Ohio. SNF Fjelde put in usual fantastic test, scoring at 66.154% and earning him the Reserve Championship at Training level at the 2005 Region 2 Dressage Championships out of 35 entries. Horses must qualify for the Championships by earning scores in qualifying classes at open dressage shows. At the Championships, horses are judged by two highly rated dressage judges, one at the front of the ring, and one on the side. In non-championship classes there is only one judge, so having two watching both sides can be quite a different experience! Riders are not allowed to carry whips in a Championship class either as they are testing the horse's ability to honestly go forward from the rider's leg. We are very proud of SNF Fjelde for all he has accomplished!

SNF Annajulia, and SNF Otar competed in the Regional Dressage Championships in Sunbury, Ohio in September. We are especially pleased that SNF Otar qualified as a 4 year old. Congratulations to his new owner, Melissa, from Maryland.
